Dr. Gwendolyn Fearing-Afflick is a social worker. She has over 10 years of clinical experience in community based mental health and school social work practice providing mental health support to individuals and families. She has an undergraduate degree in psychology, sociology and social work, a master’s degree in social work (child and family specialization) and a PhD degree in social work (research focused). She has recently added to her training a 1-year Christian counselling certificate and is a lay Christian counsellor as a member of the Canadian College of Christian Counsellors.
Dr. Fearing-Afflick has received clinical training in the following interventions:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – CBT (certificate attained)
- Narrative Therapy (certificate attained)
- Motivational Interviewing
- Dialectical Behavioural Therapy – DBT
- Insomnia Interventions (currently in training)

PhD, MSW, RSW
Dr. Fearing-Afflick is also a freelance qualitative researcher. She has completed her own primary research study at the doctorial level and has supported other research studies as a research assistant. She has 4 peer-reviewed first-authored research publications on implementation science, community-based interventions for elder abuse and neglect, caregivers’ mental health literacy and experience with seeking child and adolescent mental health services and a proposed course in school social work practice. She also has collaborated on 6 additional peer-reviewed publications with internationally known researchers. She is also committed to professional development and maintains annual professional development in various areas.
