I could not help it – recently while driving, my eyes became watery with streams of tears as I reflected on the goodness of God. Situation-after-situation, I reflected on how God made a way every time, in spite of me. In spite of my frustration, doubt, and multiple times, panic, over situations that I did not know how they would work out. Situations related to my finances, work, health, family and dreams that I prayed would come true. Sometimes I put myself in situations because of impulsive decisions and poor choices, and other times situations just happened to me. Regardless, God came through for whatever the situation, I did not fall. He kept me. And I believe He will keep you too because He is so merciful.
During this reflective drive, the scripture that came to mind that fit how I was feeling – grateful – was Psalm 37: 24 that states by the Psalmist that “…though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand…” This scripture is so encouraging. I realized that though situations may ‘knock-us-off-our-feet’ God will not let us fall. He will uphold us. And to me that means, he will strengthen us to cope with whatever has knocked us off our feet and will make a way – which may not be what we have in mind – yet somehow it will work out.
I realized in my reflection that such a scripture can help guard my nervous system from the intense feeling of panic when something happens that is completely out of my control. Instead, I can take a deep breath, and remember that though life will bring its trouble, God will carry me through; and He has done so for me 100% of the time.
I also wondered if this scripture (Psalm 37:24) has a connection with the scripture in Isaiah 40:31 “but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” With these two scriptures, I imagine that for those who place their hope in God, He will not only not let you fall, but you will soar in a season that in the natural would make someone fall apart.
I would like to encourage someone that God can catch you in your season, so you will not fall. Place your hope in Him.
